Men In Kundalini Yoga, and Why It Matters
Kundalini classes tend to be attended by the majority of women. Although the official founder of kundalini yoga in the west is Yogi Bhajan, a very powerful male Jupiter teacher who brought kundalini to us in 1969, it’s a form of yoga that tends to attracts those that identify with the female energy.
During my teacher training, there were about 6 males out of 50 students. Women were the majority, and I learned that our training had the most males in a very long time, or was it ever?
And now that I’m teaching, although most of my students are female, I get so happy when the classes have a 50/50 split. And then a cool thing happened.
I started teaching Sadhana recently at @veniceclubhouse, and they’ve been practicing regularly before I began. The couple of classes that I attended or led, majority have been men. 🤯
And you may be asking, why is this important? You may be thinking who cares. The reason why men in kundalini is so crucial is because these men have a massive amount of respect for the feminine rising. These men are in touch with their emotions, are ok with expressing themselves, and don’t feel like they are jeopardizing their masculinity.
As pioneers of the Age of Aquarius, we are no longer male dominated. The feminine needs the masculine as much as the masculine needs the feminine. We’re learning collectively that ying/yang, balance, empathy, and compassion is so damn awesome.
To the men that are loving kundalini yoga, thank you for respecting the girls, thank you for not being creepy, and thank you for showing up and being authentically YOU. Kundalini is for the world, it’s for everyone, and I’m so happy to see it embraced by different types of souls, all with a different story. Us gals are so happy to have you in this practice. Isn’t it an amazing time to be alive?
